THE ORFF SCHULWERK APPROACH AND TEACHER IN MUSIC EDUCATION

Abstract

The study aims to reveal the main philosophy of the Orff Schulwerk education approach. This approach is known as the Orff Schulwerk approach/method developed by the German composer Carl Orff. In the Orff Schulwerk approach, which is compatible with an understanding parallel to the constructivist education approach; there is no traditional teacher or a traditional education or traditional teaching approach. In this approach, the teacher has an important role in conveying the knowledge, skills and achievements to the students, in the center of education, in the structuring and managing the whole process. Although the student is at the center of learning, the teacher has the mission of being an important guide in the process of structuring this learning. In this study, the roles attributed to the teacher by the Orff Schulwerk approach are discussed with the necessary explanations and examples. In the study, the survey model was preferred as the research method. It is aimed to reveal the main philosophy, starting point, method, instruments of the Orff Schulwerk method and the roles given to the teacher during the implementation of all these parameters. For this purpose, the relevant studies in the literature so far are discussed, and some suggestions are put forward via interpreting the results in the light of these related studies.
