Generative AI policies
Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy
International Online Journal of Education and Teaching (IOJET)
The International Online Journal of Education and Teaching (IOJET) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical publishing. As generative AI and AI-assisted tools become more common in scholarly workflows, IOJET outlines the following policy to ensure responsible and transparent use of such technologies.
For Authors
-
Permitted Use:
Authors may use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly) only for language improvement—to correct grammar, improve clarity, or enhance readability. All AI use must occur under human supervision, with the author fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the final content. -
Disclosure Requirement:
Any use of generative AI in the manuscript preparation process must be disclosed clearly in a dedicated section titled “AI Use Disclosure” at the end of the manuscript (before the References section).Example:
“The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) for language editing under close human supervision. All academic content and conclusions are the responsibility of the authors.”
-
Prohibited Use:
-
AI tools must not be used to generate research content, create or manipulate educational data, or fabricate results.
-
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as authorship implies accountability which only human contributors can uphold.
-
-
Figures and Images:
Generative AI tools must not be used to create, alter, or enhance figures or images, unless their use is an essential part of the research methodology and is thoroughly explained in the Methods section.
For Reviewers
-
Reviewers must treat all submissions as confidential documents. Manuscripts and review reports must not be uploaded to any AI tool, including for grammar checking or content summarization.
-
All reviews should reflect original human insight and critical judgment. Generative AI should not be used for interpreting, assessing, or summarizing research submissions.
For Editors
-
Editors must uphold confidentiality and must not use AI tools to process manuscripts, write editorial decisions, or manage correspondence.
-
All editorial decisions should be made by qualified human editors and based solely on critical scholarly evaluation.
Ethical Compliance
IOJET’s AI policy aligns with global ethical guidelines including those from COPE, ICMJE, and major scholarly publishers. Misuse or undisclosed use of AI tools may be considered a breach of publishing ethics and may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or formal investigation.
