DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE THROUGH ONLINE MUSIC EDUCATION: INSIGHTS FROM ZHANG XIAOPING’S FLUTE WORKS
Abstract
Music education has been increasing rapidly online, and it has offered new possibilities of intercultural learning in the digital world everywhere on the planet. However, its potential in the development of intercultural competences has been under-explored. The paper employs a systematic literature review using PRISMA guidelines to review a selected set of peer-reviewed scientific publications on online education, music pedagogy and intercultural competence. The findings indicate that digital technologies can enhance access and engagement, though to attain significant intercultural competence development, culturally responsive pedagogy and integrating culturally embedded musical material are necessary. The study shows that music can be successfully used to enhance cultural awareness, empathy and international comprehension with the help of interactive and reflective learning techniques.Downloads
